Hobby Interests and Achievements

I am fascinated by the Little Homelands: Krajna (Złotowska) and Warmia, their history and present, as well as the genealogical research of my family.

I am a Krajnian on my paternal side and a Warmian on my female side, as my father, the late Joachim Jan Kokowski (1914–1973), and his ancestors, relatives, and some of his relatives come from Krajna Złotowska, while my mother, the late Łucja Kokowska, née Barabasz (1926–2009), and her ancestors, relatives, and some of her relatives come from Warmia.

I come from an indigenous family distinguished in defending Polishness in the northern borderlands (in the Prussian partition), which was active in the Association of Poles in Germany (1922–1940[45]). Hence my interest in the history of the Association of Poles in Germany, my presentations at various conferences, my organization of such conferences, and my publications on the subject, most notably the collective monograph Związek Polaków w Niemczech. Historia, pamięć historyczna i tradycje różnych polskich kresów. Pod redakcją Michała Kokowskiego (Kraków–Opole–Olsztyn–Warszawa 2025). [Association of Poles in Germany: History, Historical Memory, and Traditions of Various Polish Borderlands. Edited by Michał Kokowski (Kraków–Opole–Olsztyn–Warsaw 2025).]

As part of promoting the idea of the Krajna region (located in northern Greater Poland) and its heroes among young people, in 2013 and 2024, together with teachers, I organized two Krajna Youth Rallies “Heroes of Krajna,” culminating in the Youth Online Encyclopedia of KRAJNA HEROES. Webmaster and editor: Michał Kokowski (Warsaw–Kraków 2014).
