The Polish science and higher education system negates the idea of conscious, systematic development of scientific journals, as researchers working on such issues do not receive any points in the evaluation of scientific and organizational achievements and generally do not receive adequate remuneration for such activities (most often it is 0 PLN).
On the other hand, the idea of conscious, systematic improvement of scientific journals and scientific publications plays a key role in the integrated science-of-science I am developing.
Therefore, since 2013, I have been involved in the voluntary (i.e., unpaid) development of the scientific journal of the Commission on the History of Science of the Polish Academy of Arts and Sciences. I was the initiator and main organizer of the efforts to modernize the journal Proceedings of the Commission on the History of Science of the Polish Academy of Arts and Sciences (p-ISSN 1731-6715 | e-ISSN: 2392-1749).
As a result of these complex activities, the journal became the first open free access journal on the history of science in Poland; It was ranked highest among Polish journals on the history of science in the Index Copernicus Journal Master List 2013-2015; from July 4, 2016, the name was changed while maintaining editorial continuity (volume numbering, subject matter, editorial staff): Studia Historiae Scientiarum (e-ISSN: 2543-702X | p-ISSN: 2451-3202); the journal is indexed in numerous journal databases, including Arianta, BazHum, CEJSH, ICI Journals Master List, ERIH PLUS, EZB, PBN, POL-index, Polish scientific journals – CeON, DOAJ, Scopus, Web of Science, Peeref and in the “Ranking of Journals of the Pracownia Naukoznawstwa IHN PAN.”
Currently, the journal, among others, ranks first in the “Ranking of Journals of the Pracownia Naukoznawstwa IHN PAN”, in the “History of Science” category (this applies to both foreign and Polish journals) and in the “History” category (this applies to Polish journals).
The journal Studia Historiae Scientiarum is undergoing systematic improvement, which is the result of the gradual implementation of the principles of the “Transparent Model for Evaluating Journals of of the Pracownia Naukoznawstwa IHN PAN” (which measures the journal’s technical achievements). The results achieved have been reported annually since 2013 in an editorial describing the journal’s development status.
